On your regular garbage collection days (Monday and Thursday, or Tuesday and Friday), place your garbage above ground at one location (accessible from the front of yourhome) outside of your residence. Items other than household trash must be placed at the public right-of-way (curb). Refuse must be put out for collection by 6 a.m. Placement of containers at the public right-of-way (curb) is preferred and appreciated for all single-family homes. Containers for townhomes must be placed at the public right-of-way (curb) at the front or side of your townhome. For convenience, you may put out your refuse containers the night before collection. However, containers must be removed from the public right-of-way (curb) within 24 hours after collection.

Acceptable types of containers: | Containers must be watertight and made of plastic or galvanized metal. Containers must be no larger than 32 gallons and should be equipped with handles and tight-fitting covers. Plastic bags may be used for regular refuse only, but be sure to tie them securely to prevent spillage. Use heavy plastic bags to keep birds and animals from breaking into them. |
Acceptable weight of containers | The combined weight of any single container and its contents must not exceed 50 pounds. Containers that exceed 50 pounds will not be emptied. |
Hazardous items | The City of Rockville provides hazardous waste collection service. Call 240-314-8568 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, to schedule free collection of the following waste. Please do not place hazardous items at the public right-of-way (curb), in with regular refuse, or in sewers.
