Artist Statement:
“This work of art is one of a series of painted canvas constructions
investigating the sculptural possibilities of shaping a flat textile
surface into a three- dimensional form. The design of this particular
work was influenced by the architecture of the lobby, and by the existing
color in the art installed there.

The
“Variations” series developed from forms I had been using
when constructing shaped elements from knotted cotton string. Using
canvas, or another already constructed textile, provided greater opportunities
for investigation into shapes of individual modules, and into ways
of putting them together.
