Hilda Thorpe
1982 (Handmade Paper, Watercolors)
Alexandria, Virginia
Artist’s Statement:
“Coronation Series of handmade paper sculptures came early in
my papermaking explorations. They commemorate the opening up of the
work (figuratively and literally), a way of seeing and responding
to the immediacy of paper. This was the attraction to the new medium
and its joy. The paper was made in my studio of cotton fibers, dried,
painted with watercolors, torn apart and in a small way and later
to grow into room size environments.”
Budget: $760
