The gardens were originally designed and planted in 1927 in eighteenth-century colonial style. Inspired by Italian renaissance gardens, they were created for the private enjoyment of the prominent Lyon family. The garden is arranged into geometric spaces that create garden “rooms” cascading down the terrain toward the rear of the house.
