Halloween Happenings
Montgomery County's COVID-19 Local Order does not allow for events or activities of more than 50 people. Large Halloween gatherings, even if held outdoors, are not permitted.
The county’s recommendations include finding alternatives to in-person trick-or-treating, such as Halloween movie nights, car parades and online parties or contests.
In that spirit, Rockville’ Recreation and Parks Department has created several safe, festive alternative Halloween activities:
In-Person Activities
Halloween Boo Through
Oct. 30 from 2:30-4:30 p.m., Rockville Senior Center
For Seniors and Grandchildren Only
Enjoy the festivities from the comfort of your car! Drive through the Senior Center's back parking lot to say hello to the center staff. You'll see our decoration skills put to work for this festive occasion featuring 8 large tents of different Halloween themes and our annual staff pumpkins! Registered participants will receive a goody bag.
Halloween Sweet Treat Drive-Thru
Oct. 31 from 1-5 p.m., Civic Center Park
For Everyone
Join us for a fun and safe way to Trick-or-Treat in your car while maintaining social distancing. We are celebrating this Halloween in style, get the family together and decorate your car in the Halloween spirit and you could win a prize! Children will also be able to take home a goodie bag with Halloween cookie (Gluten Free), crafts and candy. So, grab your keys, dress up in your favorite costumes, and make your way to the park to collect sweet treats and crafts at our fun Halloween stations throughout the parking lot.
Virtual Programs
Mysteries at Glenview Mansion
Nov. 3 and Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.
For All Ages
Enjoy radio stories in the style of Agatha Christie’s Poirot and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. Stories will be streamed live on the Glenview Mansion Weddings and Special Events Facebook page.
Meet Gillis, the Vulture
Oct. 17 at 10 a.m.
For All Ages
Black vultures may look scary, but we love them! In this WebEx live program, you’ll learn lot of cool facts about the two species that live in Maryland and meet Gillis, a young Black Vulture that lives with people! Event is free, registration required.
Halloween Kids Night In
Oct. 23 from 6-8 p.m.
For Ages 6-11
Children spend the evening engaged in fun Halloween; age-appropriate activities lead by experienced Community Center staff. Including: group games, arts & crafts. Class is held virtually through WebEx. Once registered you will receive information on how to log onto class.
Hallowishes Party
Oct. 29 from 1-2 p.m.
For Seniors Only
It's Halloween time and we are having a bash! Join the staff for an afternoon of trivia and more. We can't tell you what more might be! Costumes are welcome if you wish as we have a blast!
Free Rockville Pumpkin Decorating Contest,
Enter by Oct. 31, winner announced by Nov. 6
Pizazz your pumpkin and procure prizes in the Rockville Pumpkin Decorating Contest! The themes must be Halloween, nature/fall, Rockville, or sports/recreation, and pumpkins can be carved and/or decorated! So, grab your carving kit, paint, glue, and glitter and submit your creation via social media with the hashtag #RockvillePumpkins for a shot at winning gift cards to local businesses. Entrants must be Rockville residents. Pumpkins will be judged on originality, use of creative materials and workmanship.

If you like music and dancing, come join the Zumba Party. We'll have a Spooktacular time. All levels of experience are welcome. Costumes are encouraged!
