May 3 is the New Cutoff for Comments on Rockville’s FY 2022 Budget

Rockville, Maryland, April 14 —  The community can offer ideas and feedback about the City of Rockville’s proposed budget through 5 p.m. Monday, May 3, after the Mayor and Council agreed this week to extend the public comment period.

Visit www.rockvillemd.gov/budget to review the proposed budget and offer ideas using the budget survey available in English and Spanish, or submit testimony in writing to mayorcouncil@rockvillemd.gov or Mayor and Council, City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave., Rockville, MD 20850. Testimony must be received by 5 p.m. Monday, May 3.

Public participation in the budget process is a high priority for the Mayor and Council and city staff. Completing the survey provides valuable input to the Mayor and Council for their budget discussions.

The Mayor and Council are scheduled to vote Monday, May 10 on adoption of the proposed operating budget and Capital Improvements Program for Fiscal Year 2022, which begins July 1. The proposed budget addresses financial pressures on the Rockville community due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Feb. 22, City Manager Rob DiSpirito presented a proposed operating budget of $139.7 million, which is a decrease of less than 1% from the FY 2021 adopted budget.

The Mayor and Council discussed several changes to the FY 2022 proposed revenue and expenditure budget during a March 22 work session. These changes include increased revenues from income tax, building rental and tax duplication. On the expenditure side, the Mayor and Council gave direction to fund regular employee merits/steps, a temporary employee minimum wage equal to $15 per hour, partial restoration of employee travel and training funds, and a full website redesign.

Additional changes to the budget will be discussed during a work session on Monday, April 19. Visit www.rockvillemd.gov/AgendaCenter to view the meeting agenda when it is posted later this week.
