Conservation landscaping rebates are offered to eligible properties within the City of Rockville of $1 or 2$ per square foot. To receive the $2 per square foot rebate you must complete the soil improvement requirement detailed in the design guidelines below. The area replaced with conservation landscaping must be invasive plants or bare dirt, with a minimum of 250 square feet (need not be contiguous) and a maximum available rebate of $750 (without soil improvement) or $1,200 (with soil improvement).
To participate, the projects must be installed at a private single family residence, homeowners association, condominium association, housing cooperative or other non-profit property located in the City of Rockville. Projects are not eligible if they are associated with permit approval requirements for new building construction, additions, or renovations. Projects that are partially or completely finished before approval will not qualify for rebates. All requirements as outlined below must be met. All decisions are final and are at the sole discretion of the City of Rockville.

Soil improvement is recommended to improve plant health and allow water to soak into the ground. Soil improvement requires loosening the soil to a depth of 9-12 inches and mixing in two inches of compost. See the Design Guidelines for more details.
Decompaction will be checked for at the final site visit.
Note: You must provide receipts for any purchased compost.
Ex. "lasagne method" or other no- till method of amending the soil.
At least three-fourths of your conservation landscape must be plants native to the Chesapeake Bay watershed. For a list of acceptable native plants visit the link above. To request a free hardcopy email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Any non-native invasive plants will disqualify you from the rebate.
Please estimate your landscaping costs. Include plants, mulch, contractor, etc. Itemized receipts are required upon project completion.
Must equal the square footage of turf or invasives being replaced with native plants. Maximum of $1,200.
Please attach photos of the project site, a plant list that including species, spacing, sizes and plant density, a sketch of the area drawn at (1” = 10’ or 1/8” = 1’ or ¼” = 1’) and a project approval letter if applying as a community organization.
