The Washington Balalaika Society, a Russian folk orchestra of 60 musicians performing on balalaikas and domras, will present a musical program spanning an amazing geographical area! Concert repertoire will include 'A Tale of Lake Baikal' capturing the mysterious sounds of the frozen waters of Russia's Lake Baikal to the rousing, bustling and rumba sound of 'Brasileira' from Milhaud's Scaramouche Suite.
Many will recognize the orchestra’s unique and mysterious shimmering sound. A recent concert attendee wrote: ‘I am simply in awe of the excellence of your balalaika orchestra…the magical sounds from the great blend of instruments, the unbelievable beautiful expressiveness, the perfect arrangements, the precision of the varying tempos--how everyone playing was so utterly in step with your wonderful conductor...
Last season the orchestra celebrated 30 years of performance in the Greater Washington, D.C./Maryland area.
