  5. Marylanders of Note: Goldie Hawn

    November 14, 2022, 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM

There are many famous and not so famous (but important) Marylanders. Maryland is famous for many things: blue carbs, the Ravens, and Spiro Agnew. We are also home to the first railroad, first dental school, and the first umbrella factory. This course will focus on historic figures, politicians, scientists, authors, artists and more. Instructor: Joan Adams. GOLDIE HAWN: Born in Washington, DC in 1945, she was raised in Takoma Park, MD, where her mother Laura owned a jewelry shop/dance school. Her dad Rut was a band musician. By age 19, Goldie was running her own ballet school. That propelled her into being a professional dancer. This led to her acting career starting in 1969 when she appeared in "Cactus Flower". She earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. What else has this local talent accomplished? Course 23856
