Proof of Rabies Vaccination

Pets must have a current rabies vaccination before applying for a pet license. Owners must provide proof from a veterinarian and submit a copy of the rabies vaccination with their application.

The Montgomery County Office of Animal Services offers free, weekly rabies vaccine clinics that are open to Rockville residents. A City of Rockville pet license application is also available to pick up at the rabies clinic.

How to Apply

Pet owners must complete an application when licensing a new pet or renewing an existing license. Licenses can be purchased for up to three years. Residents are encouraged to choose a license term that matches their pet’s rabies vaccination duration, such as selecting a three-year license for a three-year vaccine.

Residents may apply online, download an application to mail in, or complete one in person at the Rockville City Police Station Administrative Building (the historic former post office) between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Application Fees

Fees can be paid:

• Online by credit card.
• In person by credit card, check, or cash.
• Through the mail by money order, check, or cash.

Note: When paying online, the charge will be placed as a hold on your financial account until the application is processed by city staff.

Discounted licenses for spayed/neutered pets are available to residents 60 and older, public assistance recipients, and people with disabilities/service animals.
