This is a five-member body with members appointed by the Mayor and Council. The board elects its own chairperson. Members' terms begin on the first Monday of June and run for four years and until their successors are appointed and qualified. The board is charged with the conduct of all City elections, the registration of voters and the keeping of records in connection with these functions.
Every four years, during an election year, meetings are held more frequently to perform special tasks such as confirmation on candidacy of those individuals running for office.
This mission of the Board of Supervisors of Elections is to conduct fair and open elections that are safe and secure, provide access to the election process, protect the integrity of the vote, and maintain a transparent, accurate, and efficient process.
The Board of Supervisors of Elections wishes to inform you that, based on the United States Supreme Court decision in McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission, the total contribution limit of $2,000 in Sections 8-78(d) and (e) of the City Code is unconstitutional and will not be enforced. While the total contribution limit will not be enforced, the limit on contributions to an individual or a campaign committee of $1,000 is constitutional, is enforceable and will be enforced.
