Cultural Arts Commission
Eleven Rockville residents volunteer their time and talent to celebrate and promote the fine and performing arts that reflect the city's diversity. In addition, the Commissioners help to incubate and foster additional artistic and cultural events through their advisory function to the Mayor and City Council. The Commission takes seriously its goal of making Rockville a vibrant arts destination. Many Commissioners are artists themselves, and they serve for overlapping three-year terms. We encourage community members of all backgrounds to take part and reflect Rockville's diverse population.
One of the primary responsibilities of the Commission is to recommend public art installations to the Mayor and City Council. This task is performed by the Art in Public Places subcommittee. You can visit some of these artworks virtually through the Rockville Arts in Public Places Map.

Cultural Arts Commission Student Ambassador Program
Rockville Students are invited to join the Cultural Arts Commission Student Ambassador Program (SAP). Student participants will engage with a project of their design or that of another student. The students will be challenged to identify a problem that they see in their communities and create a solution through the arts. This solution may be something that they will present to the Mayor and Council or will be something that can be enacted without the City of Rockville’s direct involvement. The end goal is for ambassadors to have exposure to the civic process and provide a platform for students to amplify their voices.
This approximately 5-month virtual program will involve monthly meetings with other student ambassadors and the opportunity to meet with artists, policymakers, and city employees working in Rockville, MD.
The CAC Student Ambassador Program is available for students who are High School Sophomores and Juniors who attend a high school in Rockville or live in Rockville, MD.
