Pet Licensing

All dogs, cats and ferrets 4 months old and older must be licensed annually and have an updated rabies vaccination. When in public all pets must have a collar and tag, unless they are microchipped. Dogs licensed through Rockville receive exclusive access to the  Rockville Dog Park at Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park.

The fine for an unvaccinated pet is $250.

Application Process

Whether you're licensing a new pet or renewing a previous license, you must complete an application. Licenses can be purchased for up to three years.

Required Proof of Rabies Vaccination

 All pets must have a rabies vaccination before applying for a license. You must obtain proof from your veterinarian. A copy of the rabies vaccination must be uploaded with your application.

Rockville offers a monthly rabies clinic from April to September, where you can obtain a license and a discounted rabies vaccination.

Application Fees

Fees can be paid by credit card in the application. For new applications, fees are prorated based on the expiration date on the rabies vaccination.

  • Intact male or female - $24 per year
  • Spayed or neutered male or female - $12 per year
Discounted licenses are available to residents 60 and older, public assistance recipients and people with disabilities.
