Environment Commission
Established by Resolution 21-02 and amended by Resolution 16-14, the Environment Commission recommends policies and programs to the Mayor and Council and city staff related to sustainability and the environment. Core to this mission is promoting a sustainable community through initiatives related to natural resource management, energy efficiency, watershed stewardship and protection, pollution prevention, and public education.
The commission also provides feedback and recommendations on areas of improvement for the city’s environmental programs and performance, as requested by the Mayor and Council, and maintains a list of expert contacts in the local community who can advise the city on topics related to the environment.

Members

Committees
To better fulfill the role of the commission, the Watersheds Committee, Energy Committee, and Climate Action Committee were created. These groups meet independently of the full commission and work to achieve goals in each project area. Committees may help conduct research, review best practices, organize outreach events, and provide additional perspectives on topics of interest to the commission. Interested individuals who live, work, or play in Rockville are invited to participate in any or all of the committees and may contact the commission’s staff liaison for more information and meeting dates.
