Register a Security Camera

About Register a Security Camera

The Rockville City Police Department is committed to its partnership with the community. Through the RockView program, residents and business owners can voluntarily register their privately owned video security camera systems with the RCPD.

Registration is voluntary and there is no cost associated with registering. Signing up does not grant the RCPD direct access to a camera or allow law enforcement to view camera footage without the owner’s permission. Participants may opt out at any time.

How RockView Works

When a crime is reported, the RockView program helps police quickly identify nearby security cameras that may have recorded the incident. If a registered camera is in the area, police may contact the owner and ask them to review footage from the relevant time frame for potential leads in the investigation. Owners can accept or decline the request. If they choose to assist and their camera captured useful information, police will coordinate a convenient way to obtain the footage.

Information about registered camera systems will be used solely for official police purposes. Personal information will not be shared, except as required by law or court order. Submissions may be subject to disclosure under the Maryland Public Information Act.

Terms of Use

The RockView program aims to deter crime and enhance public safety through collaboration between the RCPD and the community. By registering, participants agree to the following:

  1. Any footage containing or relating to criminal activity may be collected by the Rockville City Police Department for use as evidence during any stage of a criminal proceeding.
  2. Under no circumstances shall registrants construe that they are acting as an agent and/or employee of the City of Rockville and/or the Rockville City Police Department through the program.
  3. If necessary, the Rockville City Police Department will contact camera owners directly, using information provided on this website, to request the appropriate video footage.
