Report an Abandoned Vehicle
About Report an Abandoned Vehicle
A vehicle may be reported as abandoned if it meets at least one of the following criteria:
- It is inoperable and has been left unattended on public property for more than 48 consecutive hours.
- It has been illegally parked for more than 48 consecutive hours and left unattended on or along a public highway or roadway.
- It does not display a valid registration plate or displays an expired registration plate.
- It has remained on private property for more than 48 consecutive hours without the consent of the owner or person in control of the property.
When reporting an abandoned vehicle, provide as much information as possible. Incomplete or inaccurate details may delay its removal.
Once a vehicle is reported, the Rockville City Police Department will verify the information and place a notice on the vehicle, advising the owner they have 48 hours to bring it into compliance or remove it. If the vehicle remains noncompliant or has not been removed after 48 hours, arrangements will be made for its removal.
