Community Policing
About Community Policing

The Rockville City Police Department continually seeks opportunities to foster dialogue with the community and identify ways police and civilians can work together to address challenges. The RCPD serves as a liaison for the Community Policing Advisory Board and remains committed to participating in community forums on racial justice.
Fair and Impartial Policing Training
In 2019, the RCPD began offering Fair and Impartial Policing training to the community. The training emphasizes bias-free behavior in policing and is structured as an open discussion with scenario-based workshops. These workshops allow police and community leaders to learn together and find ways to improve communication. The primary goal is to promote a safer, more resilient community.
Outreach Programs
The RCPD conducts outreach programs throughout the year, providing opportunities for community members to interact with officers, build community spirit, and strengthen Rockville’s standing as one of America’s leading small cities. These programs include:
- Residential and commercial safety surveys.
- Safety talks.
- Civilian Response to Active Shooter Event (CRASE) training.
- Coffee with a Cop.
- Annual police station open house.
- National Night Out.
Community Engagement and Inclusion
The RCPD is committed to protecting the constitutional rights of all individuals. The Community Services Unit serves as a liaison to the public, including the LGBTQ+ community, fostering an inclusive and trusting relationship through community engagement events.
Community Services Unit personnel collaborate across divisions of the department and assist in tracking and investigating hate bias crimes and incidents. All reports are fully investigated by the Criminal Investigations Unit and shared with the Montgomery County Police Department’s Community Engagement Unit for countywide tracking.
Additionally, members of the Community Services Unit engage with the City of Rockville’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Division, serving as equity champions within the department.
