Rockville to Reflect on Residents’ Service with Veterans Day Ceremony

Nov. 11 Ceremony Will Include Salutes and Speech by Marine Veteran

A Rockville veteran of the United States Marine Corps will be the featured speaker as the city honors veterans of our nation’s armed forces at 11 a.m. on Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11.
The ceremony, which is open to the public, will be held at American Legion Post 86, in the Twinbrook Marketplace shopping center, at 2013 Veirs Mill Road. It will include a wreath laying and a military salute by the American Legion Post 86 Honor Guard.
This year’s featured speaker is Enrique Mazon Jr. Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, Mazon served in the United States Marine Corps from July 2005 – August 2009. He was stationed in Camp Pendleton, California, assigned to the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, Headquarters Company, 1st Marine Division, serving as an administrative clerk for a unit of approximately 1,300 Marines and sailors. In August 2006, he was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 3rd Low Air Altitude Defense Battalion, 3rd Marine Air Wing, Marine Control Group – 38.
He was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Navy Unit Commendation Medal with one star, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with one campaign star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mazon is an international trade specialist with the Office of Country and Regional Affairs’ Western Hemisphere Division at the United States Department of Agriculture, Foreign Agricultural Service. He is married, with two children.
