Zoning Ordinance Rewrite Meeting to Focus on Parking, Use Standards
June 30, 2025
Rockville has been busy working on the zoning ordinance rewrite throughout the summer, with meetings soliciting public input on the process.
The rewrite seeks to modernize the city’s zoning regulations through updates to the text of the zoning ordinance and revisions to the zoning map.
A virtual community meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 31 will focus on parking and use standards, similar to discussions scheduled for the Monday, July 21 Mayor and Council and Wednesday, July 23 Planning Commission meetings. Register at bit.ly/ZORjuly31.
The rewrite aligns with goals outlined in the Rockville 2040 Comprehensive Plan, which guides the city’s long-term growth and development. The proposed changes aim to ensure that Rockville’s zoning regulations support the community’s vision for the future.
As the text of the zoning ordinance is updated, the city’s zoning map will also be updated and certain properties rezoned through a comprehensive map amendment. The proposed rezonings won’t be the topic of this meeting.
Residents and neighborhood associations interested in learning more about the project are encouraged to contact the city. City staff are available to provide overview presentations at community meetings.
