Keep These Safety Tips in Mind While Preparing for Thanksgiving:
Stay Present in the Kitchen – Don’t leave the stovetop unattended and don’t leave the house while food is cooking in the oven.
Keep Children and Pets Away from Stoves and have a fire extinguisher and first aid kit.
If You Deep Fry the Turkey – Do it outside, on a flat surface, away from all structures or anything flammable, to a fully-thawed turkey.
Never Leave Candles Unattended and Test Smoke Alarms Ahead of Time
Make Sure the Fireplace Is Inspected Annually and that the Fluke is Open before Burning Wood
Don’t Leave Outdoor Bonfires or Firepits Unattended
Wash hands thoroughly before handling food and after contact with raw turkey
Cook turkey to an internal temperature of 165ºF and check with a food thermometer
Avoid cross-contamination between raw meat and other foods
Refrigerate leftovers within two hours
Don’t feed dogs poultry bones because they can splinter and cause damage
Consider Possible Hazards on Your Property Ahead of Time to Prevent Possible Slip-and-Fall Accidents – Shovel snow and use salt to prevent icy sidewalks and driveways
