They Shoot, They Score! Latino Youth Soccer Team Wins League Championship

Rockville’s Latino Youth Development Program soccer team captured the High School Sam’s Select League championship in its first finals appearance since 2017. The team won the title in a two-game aggregate format, tying 1-1 and winning 4-2 for a 5-3 overall score. 

The team finished the regular season with a 5-1 record and led the league with 34 goals. It won its semifinal match 4-0 and carried that momentum into the finals. Players and coaches were recognized at the Mayor and Council’s Nov. 3 meeting for their hard work on and off the field. 

The players were Eduardo Acosta, German E. Chaparro, German R. Chaparro, Brayan Campos, Edzon Canchanya, Erick Castillo, Javier Claros, Joyser Coreas, Jose Delgado, Moris Flores Gaitan, Jonathan Garay, Paolo Gonzalez, Manuel Lopez, Wilmer Nolasco, Yovani Parada, Brayan Ramos, Emiliano Ramos, Samuel Ramos, Saul Rodriguez Soriano and Nelson Rodriguez. They were coached by Alex Castro, Abraham Castro and Balmory Moran. 

The Latino Youth Development Program promotes team-oriented and mentoring enrichment activities that prioritize the education and wellness of Latino males attending Earle B. Wood and Julius West middle schools, and Richard Montgomery and Rockville high schools.
