January 2, 2026

Rockville will honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy with a fresh look at justice, equity and action as the city holds its 54th annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.
“Reclaiming the Dream: Justice, Equity, and Action,” from 8:30 a.m.-noon Monday, Jan. 19 at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, 603 Edmonston Drive, will explore what it means to advance equity and justice in communities today.
Hosted by the Mayor and Council and the city’s Human Rights Commission, and scheduled for the Monday holiday, the event will include deep and engaging conversations on equitable governance, shared leadership, systemic change and restorative practices. It will highlight the power of collective action, civic innovation and healing justice as attendees reflect, reimagine and recommit to building a future rooted in justice for all.
A continental breakfast will be available while supplies last.
Event presenters include: Razia F. Kosi, a mental health professional and education leader, focused on advancing equity, elevating trauma-informed practices, championing student voice initiatives and developing strategies to address and mitigate hate/bias incidents in a highly diverse Maryland public school system. William N. Flagler Jr., a crisis management consultant and speaker who directs public safety communications and emergency management planning and response for a large local jurisdiction. Mary Frances Kenion, chief equity officer at the National Alliance to End Homelessness, who has spent more than 18 years helping communities improve their homelessness response systems. Kyle A. Warfield, a Maryland lawyer and inclusion and compliance specialist in public higher education, monitoring diversity commitments; providing custom training and consultation services; developing recruitment, hiring and retention resources for senior leaders; and collaborating with the campus community to solve problems.
After the city’s celebration, attendees are encouraged to participate in a day of service through the Montgomery County Volunteer Center.
