Emergency Financial Help Available for Rockville Residents in Crisis

March 1, 2026

Facing an eviction notice? Utilities about to be disconnected? Struggling to pay for essential medications? The Rockville Emergency Assistance Program provides temporary relief to eligible residents experiencing urgent hardships. The program also connects residents to additional resources including emergency food, clothing, financial counseling and employment assistance.

To qualify for REAP, applicants must have been City of Rockville residents for at least six months. Those seeking rent assistance must have a court-issued eviction notice. Applicants seeking utility assistance must have a current shutoff notice or had their service disconnected.

Before applying to the city, residents must first apply for emergency assistance through Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services. The county will then submit a referral to the city’s Department of Housing and Community Development on behalf of eligible city residents. Once a referral is received, residents can schedule an appointment by calling 240-314-8300.
