The Mayor and Council in January proclaimed July 4 as the 250th Anniversary of America in Rockville, affirming the city’s commitment to justice, belonging and full civic participation. See the proclamation on Rockville 11’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/cityofrockville (search “250th Anniversary of America Proclamation”).

Rockville Town Center will feature a patriotic flag display through mid-November, with U.S. flags adorning the streets in recognition of the anniversary.

Peerless Rockville’s pictorial exhibit, “Rockville 250: Our American Story,” at the historic Red Brick Courthouse traces American history as it happened, from the Revolutionary era, through slavery and emancipation, suburbanization and the growth of today’s modern, diverse city.

Exhibit hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, with special Saturday hours from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on July 25 and Aug. 29.

The city’s America250 celebration will also be part of several community events. Rockville’s Independence Day celebration on Saturday, July 4, will feature an enhanced fireworks display, patriotic decor and special giveaways. See the article on this page for details.

The celebration will continue Saturday, Sept. 26, during Rocktobierfest, when the city will bury an America250 time capsule, preserving memories, Rockville history and messages for future generations.
