Community Survey

Rockville administers a community survey every two years to gauge resident satisfaction. The survey allows residents to rate their quality of life, community amenities, and local government services. The results help city officials plan for the future by identifying strengths and areas for improvement.

The previous survey was conducted in 2018. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the survey was paused but resumed its biennial schedule in 2024.

2024 Community Survey

The city’s 11th community survey was mailed to 3,000 randomly selected households across Rockville over a three-week period in fall 2024. In total, 476 completed surveys were returned. The survey has a 5% margin of error.

Key findings included:

• 90% of residents rate Rockville’s quality of life as good or excellent. They also believe their neighborhoods and the city are great places to live and raise children.
• Rockville scored highly for its treatment of diverse residents.
• Nine in 10 residents rated the overall quality of services positively, and the same percentage said they would recommend living in Rockville.

Rockville’s highest-rated characteristics included:

• The overall quality of the natural environment.
• Parks and recreation opportunities.
• The city’s image and reputation.
• Utility infrastructure.
• A feeling of safety.
• Overall health and wellness.
• The transportation system.
• Educational opportunities.

Other top-rated services—considered excellent or good by more than 85% of respondents—included playgrounds, youth services, fire prevention and education, Rockville-provided water and sewer services, athletic fields, and trash collection.

Nearly all respondents reported feeling very or somewhat safe in their neighborhoods and commercial areas during the day. Compared to the 2018 survey, feelings of safety in 2024 improved for paths and trails, parks and playgrounds, and residential areas.
