Information Technology Department

The City of Rockville’s Information Technology Department is dedicated to delivering timely, innovative, and customer-focused technology services to enhance the efficiency and quality of services provided to residents.

The IT Department manages the city’s voice, data, geographic information systems (GIS), and network infrastructure. The department works toward defined objectives and projects that strengthen the city’s ability to serve the public and respond effectively to residents’ needs. It also supports internal operations by providing help desk services to all city departments and driving efficient service delivery through system consolidation, process improvement, and optimization.

The IT Department supports numerous citywide and departmental applications, including the financial and human resources systems, office software, email, utility billing, permitting, legislative (agenda) management, and public safety systems.

Thanks to IT-led initiatives, doing business and communicating with the city has become faster, easier, and more reliable. Supported systems and infrastructure include a high-speed fiber-optic network, a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone system, updated email and voice platforms, web servers, online permitting, online recreation registration, an online service request system, and interactive mapping tools.

Vendors interested in providing technology services to the city are encouraged to visit the Procurement Department page for more information.

Note: The IT Department provides internal services to city staff only and does not handle public technical support requests.
