State to Host Workshops on Proposed I-270/I-495 Widening Project

April 3, 2019

The State Highway Administration is hosting public workshops across Montgomery and Prince George’s counties this month about a proposed project to widen interstates 270 and 495, including a workshop in Rockville on Thursday, April 25.

The Rockville workshop will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Thomas S. Wootton High School, 2100 Wootton Parkway. It will include informational displays, handouts, and interactive and hard-copy mapping. SHA staff will be available to answer questions. The same information will be presented twice: once at 6:30 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m., providing an overview of progress on the proposed project, and time for questions and answers. Comments will be accepted at the workshops and online at
. If you cannot attend, a virtual workshop will also be available on the program website starting April 11.

SHA presented 19 alternatives for the project in July. Since then, the state has reduced the number to seven recommended alternatives. The workshop presentations will detail the traffic, environmental and financial analyses for these recommended alternatives, and the recommendations for the alternatives to be retained for detailed study in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement.
