Gear Up for Bike Month in May

Get ready to ride as Rockville gears up for Bike to Work Day and Bike Month in May.
Rockville Bicycle Advisory Committee Bike Month Kickoff Ride: Sunday, May 4
Meet at 10 a.m. at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave. Join Rockville officials and neighbors to celebrate National Bike Month. Pedal a casual 6-mile loop along multi-use trails and quiet residential streets to explore some of the city’s extensive and diverse bicycling infrastructure. The route includes a few paths, bridges and tunnels.
National Bike and Roll to School Day: Wednesday, May 7
Start a celebration or event at your school! Visit www.walkbiketoschool.org or check with your school to see how you can join in. Remember: Montgomery County requires anyone under age 18 to wear a bicycle helmet when riding or being carried on a bicycle, including a bicycle with training wheels, on a public street, in right of way, or on a sidewalk or bicycle path.
National Bike to Work Day: 6:30 a.m. Thursday, May 15
Registration is now open at www.biketoworkmetrodc.org for all 15 Montgomery County pit stops, including at Thomas Farm Community Center, 700 Fallsgrove Drive, and a new stop at 36 Maryland Ave. at The Square in Rockville Town Center. Pit stops will have free snacks, beverages and bicycling giveaways while supplies last, and free T-shirts for the first 18,000 people in the Washington metropolitan region to register and stop by.
Rockville Pedestrian Advocacy Committee Rollins Avenue Walk ’n’ Roll: Thursday, May 15
Meet at 6 p.m. at the Evelyn Drive and Rollins Avenue intersection and join RPAC and city staff for a community walk ’n’ roll along Rollins Avenue to Rockville Pike. Discuss pedestrian concerns and learn about ongoing city projects to improve the pedestrian environment.
