City Moves King Farm Farmstead Project Toward Master Plan Phase

September 5, 2025

Rockville is progressing with plans to revitalize the historic King Farm Farmstead with a draft master plan expected to be presented this fall.

At a July 14 work session, the Mayor and Council reviewed community-driven programming options and concepts for building use, presented by the Department of Recreation and Parks and the city’s design consultant, Design Collective. The options were developed through a public engagement process that included surveys, visioning and filtering sessions, and concept feedback received from the community.

The session followed earlier guidance given in October 2024, when city leaders asked staff to explore viable building uses. Following the presentation, the Mayor and Council directed staff to advance selected concepts into the next phase: economic analysis and construction cost estimation.

A third work session is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 29, where a draft master plan for the site will be presented for review and further input.

Located in King Farm Farmstead Park, the site is one of Rockville’s historic landmarks. The city’s vision emphasizes adaptive reuse, historical preservation and activating the space for community benefit. Potential future uses include event spaces, community markets, art and makerspaces, and recreational programming.
