Operas, Ghosts and Goddess Power: September Performances at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre

The curtains open on mistaken identities, courtroom hijinks, supernatural thrills and divine strength this month as the newly renovated F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre brings an eclectic mix of performances to Rockville’s stage. 

A dedication to mark the renovations will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. Tours of the theater will follow. 

A Double Bill of Gilbertian Comedy 
8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, and Saturday, Sept. 6, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7. Friday performances will feature American Sign Language interpretation. 

The Victorian Lyric Opera Company presents semi-staged concert readings of “The Zoo” and “Trial by Jury,” two one-act operas by Gilbert and Sullivan and their collaborators that revel in the absurdities of love and law. Packed with wit, whimsy and musical charm, the shows promise laughter and delight for all ages.

“Narayaani — A Journey to Empowerment”
4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14. 

Presented by My Me Time Stories, offers a powerful narrative inspired by the Hindu goddess Durga, a principal form of the divine feminine energy known as “shakti.” Blending storytelling and dance, this performance explores themes of self-discovery and strength through adversity.

A Haunting Tale on Stage 
8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 26 and 27 and Oct. 3 and 4. Matinees 2 p.m. Sundays, Sept. 28 and Oct. 5. 

Rockville Little Theatre returns with “The Woman in Black,” a ghost story that unfolds as a lawyer and a young actor delve into chilling memories that refuse to stay buried. Adapted by Stephen Mallatratt from Susan Hill’s classic novel, the play uses minimal staging and psychological tension to eerie effect.

Concert Band Seeks New Members 

The Rockville Concert Band, a volunteer ensemble of 75 adult musicians, is seeking new adult players in the percussion, bassoon and trombone sections. The band rehearses Tuesday evenings and performs regularly at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre and other city events throughout the year.

Rockville Chorus Seeks Tenors and Basses for Upcoming Season 

The Rockville Chorus will hold auditions for tenors and basses on Monday, Sept. 8. 

The adult 80-member volunteer chorus has performed for the Rockville community for 52 years, presenting a winter concert in December and a spring concert in May at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, as well as participating in the city’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony in Rockville Town Center.
