Harmony Express presents “Harmony Explosion Show” 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11
An unforgettable evening of a cappella singing, ringing chords and rising voices, with the final showcase of “Harmony Explosion MoCo 2025,” featuring performances by local high school students fresh from a day of learning the art of barbershop singing. Also taking the stage are Montgomery County favorites: event host and Germantown chapter of Barbershop Harmony Society, Harmony Express, and the ever-popular Glen Echoes quartet. Special guests, international award-winning quartet Quorum, will act as mentors for students during the daylong workshop and will close out the evening’s performance. Victorian Lyric Opera Company presents “Strauss’ 200th Birthday Concert Gala” 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 17 and 18; 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct.19.
Celebrate the 200th birthday of Johann Strauss, Jr. with a sparkling weekend of music and glamour. Enjoy lively selections from “Die Fledermaus,” “The Gypsy Baron,” “A Night in Venice” and more, brought to life in three nights of concert performance. Each night will offer something special: preconcert insights Friday; a family-friendly waltz workshop on Sunday; and a spectacular Saturday gala with Viennese treats, live music and more. Learn “The Sharing Song” with Blue Sky Puppets’ “Pig Tales!” Welcome to Mrs. Picklebottom’s classroom, where she and her students, Suzy, Buster and Chester, have a full day ahead of them. How do they work together as a team to act in “The Three Billy Goats Gruff” and “Jack and the Beanstalk” while taking turns and not hurting feelings? Includes a craft project. “Shades of Pastel” Opens Sunday, Oct. 12
The Maryland Pastel Society’s national juried exhibit, “Shades of Pastel 2025,” will be on display Sunday, Oct. 12 through Wednesday, Nov. 26 at the Glenview Mansion Art Gallery. A free reception to meet the artists will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12. Founded in 1977, the Maryland Pastel Society is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting original works of soft pastel art and supporting the technical and creative growth of its members. The gallery is on the second floor of Glenview Mansion and is wheelchair accessible. Hours are 9 a.m.4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The gallery is closed on city holidays.
Rockville Concert Band to Present “Winds of the Night” 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12
The Rockville Concert Band, under the direction of Christine Higley, will present “Winds of the Night” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre. The fall concert will feature selections including “Music for a Darkened Theatre” by Danny Elfman, “October” by Eric Whitacre and music from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera.” Admission is free; a $5 donation is suggested. Join Clara on her magical journey! The Rockville Civic Ballet, directed by Eleanor Simpson and Erin Kwong, will perform “The Nutcracker” in December at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre. Call for Student Artists: 2026 Juried Exhibit
Rockville’s Arts Division and the Rockville Art League are accepting entries for the 2026 Rockville Student Juried Art Exhibit. Students in grades 6-12 who live or attend school in Rockville may submit up to two two- or three-dimensional pieces in any medium. Works must be framed or finished and securely wired for hanging. Online entries are due by Friday, Dec. 12. Complete an entry form at arcg.is/GfruS0. Students will be notified by Friday, Jan. 2, if their work is accepted. Selected works must be delivered on Tuesday, Jan. 20. The exhibit will run Saturday, Jan. 25, through Thursday, Feb. 13, at Glenview Mansion Art Gallery. A meet the artists event will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25. Artwork must be picked up Tuesday, Feb. 17.
