Rockville Honored for a 35th Time for Its Budget Presentation

September 30, 2025

The city’s Department of Finance in September earned the Government Finance Officers Association’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for Rockville’s FY 2026 Adopted Budget.

The award reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. This is the 35th time the city has received the honor.

To receive the award, the city satisfied nationally recognized guidelines designed to assess how well an organization’s budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications tool.

In addition to receiving the award, Rockville received special recognition for its budget process and capital program, which is given when all reviewers issue the highest possible score in particular categories.

One reviewer stated: “The document utilizes visual presentation to organize and present data very effectively,” and “The document identifies the entity’s priorities and strategic initiatives and describes in detail the tangible efforts undertaken in support of those goals.”

Founded in 1906, GFOA represents more than 20,000 federal, state/provincial and local finance officials throughout the United States and Canada, with a mission of advancing excellence in public finance.
