Potomac Woods Park is Fourth Location to Drop Off Food Scraps for Composting

A new drop-off site opening this month offers residents a fourth site for composting food scraps.
The site at Potomac Woods Park opens Saturday, Nov. 1. There is no cost to drop off food scraps at city sites, which make composting easy, keeping valuable materials out of landfills and helping to reduce excessive greenhouse gas emissions. The sites are located at:

  • Maintenance Facility, 4625 Rothgeb Drive.
  • Potomac Woods Park, 1380 Stratton Drive.
  • Twinbrook Community Recreation Center, 12920 Twinbrook Parkway.
  • Rockville Senior Center, 1150 Carnation Drive.

Food scraps are picked up weekly by a commercial contractor and delivered to the Prince George’s County Organic Compost Facility.

How To Use the Drop-Offs

  1. Place food scraps in a container — empty coffee containers with sealing lids are great for this. Be sure to remove any plastic or other trash.
  2. Bring full containers and empty them into the designated green bins at one of the food scraps compost drop-offs. Follow the signs when you arrive. The sites are accessible 24/7 and the service is free of charge.
  3. Rinse container and repeat.
