Weekly Crime Report for Jan. 6 – Jan. 12, 2026
January 13, 2026
Be Able to Recognize and Report Human Trafficking
January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, rekindle efforts, and remind individuals, organizations, and communities how to recognize, prevent, and respond to human trafficking, which is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of people through force, fraud, or deception, with the aim of exploiting them for profit. Human trafficking can involve the forced labor, sexual exploitation, and physical or psychological coercion of vulnerable adults and children.
Possible signs of human trafficking may include:
- Living with their employer or living with multiple others in cramped or poor conditions.
- Their employer holding their identity documents.
- The victims are not allowed to speak to others alone, and their answers may appear scripted or rehearsed.
Concerned individuals can report a tip to the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888.
