Recycling and Trash Collections to Resume on a Modified Collection Schedule

January 27, 2026

Rockville City Hall and all city facilities will resume normal operating hours on Wednesday, Jan. 28, with the snow emergency and parking restrictions ending at 7 a.m.

City of Rockville curbside trash, recycling and yard waste collection will resume Wednesday, Jan. 28. Collections are occurring two days later than usual throughout the week, with Monday routes collected on Wednesday, Tuesday routes collected on Thursday, Wednesday routes collected on Friday and Thursday routes collected on Saturday.

Customers should ensure that containers are free of snow and ice and are easily accessible to allow for safe and efficient pickup. Learn more at rockvillemd.gov/recycling-trash.

Community members who utilized city-owned lots for moving vehicles off the street during the snow emergency are responsible for digging out their vehicles.

Montgomery County continues to offer warming stations for people in need of heated shelter. More information is available at montgomerycountymd.gov/OPI/alerts/hypothermia.html.

The city asks community members for patience as crews continue Rockville’s snow response. City crews treat and plow roads in priority order. First are primary roads, including major arterial roads, emergency routes, central business districts and primary residential roads near schools. Next are secondary roads, including the remainder of neighborhood streets, alleyways and cul-de-sacs.

Removing snow from sidewalks, driveways and entrances is the responsibility of the property and/or business owner or a community association. Rockville requires that snow be removed from sidewalks, steps, driveways, parking spaces and similar paved areas.

If community members can do so, they should clear snow from around fire hydrants and storm drains. To report a sidewalk that has not been cleared, call 240-314-8330.

Community members are encouraged to check on older neighbors and individuals with disabilities who may need assistance clearing snow. For information about the city’s volunteer snow shoveling for seniors program, visit rockvillemd.gov/snowvolunteer or call 240-314-8810.

Updates on Rockville’s storm response, city programs and facilities and other information will be available at rockvillemd.gov, on Rockville 11 (channel 11 on county cable systems), and on Facebook page (City of Rockville Government) and X (formerly Twitter; @Rockville411).
