Don’t Pick Plants in Rockville Parks

February 3, 2026

A large leafless tree stands in the middle of a grassy field with scattered evergreen trees under a partly cloudy sky.

When visiting Rockville’s parks and forests, remember that plants, whether native or non-native, may not be cut or removed without permission from the city.

Some plants that may appear to be weeds play an important role in park ecosystems. Other plants require careful removal to avoid damaging surrounding habitat. Trained city staff and Rockville Weed Warriors work to ensure that appropriate plants are removed at the proper time and in the proper way.

Community members interested in helping protect local parks can participate in a Rockville Weed Warriors workday. Learn more and sign up at rockvillemd.gov/weedwarriors.
