April Is Flood Awareness Month

April 1, 2026

Flooding is the most common natural disaster. Anywhere it can rain, it can flood. Taking steps now helps protect homes and neighborhoods before storms hit.

Rockville offers a variety of resources to stay flood smart:

  • Get the Guide. “Go With the Flow: A Homeowner’s Guide to Responsible Stormwater Solutions” is available in English, Spanish and simplified Chinese. The guide helps identify the source and severity of flooding, potential solutions and how to apply for rebates to offset project costs.
  • Apply for Flood Mitigation Funds. Rockville offers matching reimbursement funds of up to $5,000 for residents and property owners who have made flood protection improvements.
  • Prepare for Future Flooding. Learn how to understand flood risks, reduce potential impacts, consider flood insurance and prepare for severe weather events.

Help Shape Rockville’s Flood Resiliency Master Plan

Rockville is developing a Flood Resiliency Master Plan to better protect the city from flooding, and community input is essential. Share experiences, ideas and priorities by taking the Flood Resiliency Survey and add flooding, locations to the interactive map at engagerockville.com/floodplan
