Events Coming Up at Rockville Civic Center

From puppets to Gilbert and Sullivan, Rockville offers an eclectic mix of performances and exhibitions from May through late July, with events at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre and Glenview Mansion Art Gallery.

When Mrs. Pig’s three bickering sons are sent out into the world, they each build a home of straw, sticks and brick, and cross paths with a friendly vegetarian wolf on an alphabet diet. After the wolf blows down the homes of the two rude brothers, he is won over by the youngest’s kindness. The trio learns that cooperation and teamwork are the true foundations of success. Includes a craft project. 

Tickets are for ages 3 and older, and cost $5 for residents and $7 for nonresidents. 

Based on Mark Haddon’s novel and adapted by Simon Stephens, the play follows Christopher, a 15-year-old with autism. He dedicates himself to uncovering the true killer of his neighbor’s dog, embarking on an inspiring journey that changes his life forever. Directed by Michel Kharfen. 

Tickets cost $24 for adults and $22 for students and seniors. Group pricing is available by calling the box office. 

A spring concert featuring original works alongside choral standards, including “Again, We Become Alone,” a new original piece by Bryan Seith; “My Fair Lady,” a choral medley by Lerner and Loewe; “Actus,” a new piece by Ryan Main; “Sing, My Child” by Sarah Quartel; two selections from “Frostiana” by Randall Thompson; and “Take Me to the Water” by Rollo Dilworth. The performance will be directed by Linda Garrettson and accompanied by Arielle Bayer.

The Rockville Art League’s juried spring show opens with a reception to meet the artists, who will discuss their varied-media artwork. 

For one night only, the 36-year-old Interplay Orchestra ensemble of more than 90 adult musicians with intellectual, developmental and other disabilities performs works spanning U2, Prince, Duke Ellington, Dolly Parton, Ozzy Osbourne and more. The event features loud music; earplugs are available by request. 

General admission tickets cost $20. 

Celebrate spring with a French accent. The French Choir of Washington’s fourth annual spring concert will feature adult and youth choirs performing with a 13-piece chamber orchestra, under the direction of artistic director Simon Charette, with piano accompaniment by Julia Aguajo. A post-concert reception with light refreshments will offer the chance to meet performers. 

Premium-tier tickets cost $50 for adults. Mid-tier and regular-tier tickets cost $30 for adults and $26 for children 15 and younger, students and seniors. 

Updated to a mid-century university coffee shop setting, this Gilbert and Sullivan operetta follows a love triangle involving dramatic poets, cricket-playing Dragoons and a down-to-earth barista named Patience, all while making gentle fun of trend-chasing and the Aesthetic movement. 

Tickets cost $30; $28 for seniors 65 and older; $26 for students. Group pricing is available by calling the box office. 

To celebrate this year’s 100th anniversary of Glenview Mansion, the Rockville Art League will present a themed show from June 28-Aug. 28. A reception to meet the artists will be held 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 28. 

The gallery is on the second floor of Glenview Mansion and is wheelchair accessible. Hours are 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The gallery is closed on city holidays. 

This classic story takes the stage in a production directed by Eleanor Simpson and Erin Kwong. 

Tickets cost $17 for adults and $13 for children 12 and younger and seniors 60 and older. Assigned-seat tickets will be available in late June, online, by phone or in person.
