Speaker Series to Feature ‘100 Years of Glenview Mansion’
May 1, 2026

One hundred years ago, James and Elizabeth Smith Lyons, the wealthy owners of Glenview Mansion, embarked on an ambitious renovation project to transform their weekend home into an enviable contemporary country estate.
D.C. architects James A. Lockie and Irwin Stevens Porter designed a new stone house that would envelop and expand the existing 1838 structure, surrounded by landscaped grounds and formal gardens by John H. Small III.
The result is a neo-classical revival mansion that has become the centerpiece of Rockville’s Civic Center.
From 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14, join Peerless Rockville for a walking tour of the mansion, and learn about the remarkable beauty of the building and the privileged, but poignant, lives of the Lyons family.
The bimonthly Glenview Mansion and Peerless Rockville Speaker Series is free to attend, but spaces are limited. Register with course #36329 at rockvillemd.gov/registration or visit peerlessrockville.org for more information.
