The city held a kickoff meeting for the community on Thursday, Sept. 17. Additional community meetings are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 12, to discuss targeting and opportunity assessment, and Thursday, Jan. 14, to discuss the implementation framework.

Both meetings will be held 6-8 p.m. in the Mayor and Council chamber at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave., and will include a hybrid option to participate online.

By engaging residents, businesses, institutions, property owners, investors and other stakeholders, the whole community has an opportunity to take part in shaping the plan’s goals, its strategies and how they are implemented.

An external working group comprising business leaders and other city economic development partners continues to meet this fall and winter. Feedback from the working group will help frame and prioritize actions for city leadership to consider.

Before the plan is presented to the Mayor and Council for adoption, its development will include a baseline and comparative analysis, real estate market trend analysis and forecast, site identification and readiness analysis, economic competitiveness analysis, economic development strategies and recommendations, identification of potential impacts and challenges, and drafting of the implementation plan.

The resulting framework will help the city make strategic decisions that support long-term economic vitality and maximize the impact of public investments.
