Workshops Explain Rockville’s Updated Housing Code

October 30, 2026

Rockville landlords and tenants can learn about changes to the city’s rental housing code during a series of workshops in November and December, ahead of new rules taking effect Jan. 1.

The workshops will explain new rights and responsibilities under Chapter 18 of Rockville City Code, which governs rental facilities and landlord-tenant relations. Participants will have opportunities to ask questions, learn how to navigate common rental housing issues and connect with resources and assistance.

Adopted unanimously by the Mayor and Council in July, the updated code clarifies rental housing requirements, strengthens tenant protections and increases transparency. Changes include limits on fees landlords may charge, expanded relocation assistance for tenants displaced by code violations or unfit housing conditions, clearer disclosure of lease terms and costs, and stronger enforcement tools.

Separate workshops will address changes for tenants and landlords. All sessions are from 6-7:30 p.m.
