King Farm Farmstead Park
Features
King Farm Farmstead Park, located at the northeast corner of the King Farm neighborhood near MD 355 (Frederick Road), stands as a testament to Rockville’s agricultural heritage. Established in the early 19th century by the Graff family on 122 acres, this historic site has witnessed significant transformations, reflecting the evolution of the region over two centuries. The Graff family cultivated the land for more than a century until it was sold to W. Lawson King in 1924 and renamed Irvington Farm. Under the King family’s stewardship, the farm expanded, becoming the largest dairy farm in Montgomery County with 450 registered Holstein cows.
Once the largest farm in the area, much of the original property has been sold and developed. The remaining historic structures include the dairy barns, tenant houses, farmhouse, garage, and horse barn. In 2006, King Farm Farmstead was designated a historic district, ensuring the protection of its structures.
In recent years, the City of Rockville has initiated projects to restore the structural integrity of the buildings, including the installation of modern utilities to support future uses. With its rich history and potential for multiuse facilities, this historic gem is poised to become a cornerstone of community recreation, arts, and culture. Visit engagerockville.com/kingfarm to get involved in the collaborative process to determine its adaptive reuse.
Featuring a pavilion with picnic tables and two grills, this park is the perfect spot for a family barbecue or a relaxed picnic with friends! Planning an event? Visit the Rent a Park Pavilion page to learn more about reserving the pavilion. Note that portable restrooms are available only with a permit.
The park also includes a thriving community garden where gardeners can grow their own food and other plants. Have a green thumb? Garden plots are available to rent for residents of the City of Rockville through the King Farm Citizens Assembly website.
King Farm Farmstead Park is just a short walk from the surrounding neighborhood, and a parking lot offers easy access from the Frederick Road entrance.
