College Gardens Park Mural

Flight of Fancy was designed by artist Andy Dahl for College Gardens Park as an initiative of the Art in Public Places Program. Installed in 2025, the mural depicts native flora and fauna, such as the great blue heron and leaves of the red maple tree. The leaves shift from red to green, which is symbolic of the seasons changing from fall to spring. The background colors represent both a sunset and sunrise while also portraying the cold winter to warm summer. The swallows are native migratory birds and are symbolic of the diversity of people that both belong to a place because they were born there or because they migrated there to make a new home. Swallows are known to feed above bodies of water and are highly social. They represent College Gardens Park’s importance as a place for neighbors to meet and be together.
