Learn About the Maryland 400 at Glenview Mansion
July 1, 2026
The Peerless Rockville and Glenview Mansion Speaker Series will explore the story of Maryland soldiers whose stand at the Battle of Brooklyn helped the Continental Army survive one of its earliest defeats during the Revolutionary War.
“The Maryland 400: Revolutionary War Soldiers at the Battle of Brooklyn” will be held 7-8 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at Glenview Mansion.
The talk will feature Owen Lourie, a senior Maryland state archivist. Lourie will discuss the Maryland soldiers who helped hold off British forces in August 1776, allowing the American army to retreat and continue the fight for independence.
The program, marking America’s 250th anniversary, will include firsthand accounts of the soldiers’ actions at the Battle of Brooklyn, the first major battle of the Revolutionary War. Lourie will also discuss the lives of several soldiers from the unit and explore their families’ experiences during and after the war.
