Rockville proudly celebrated its LGBTQ+ community at its 10th annual Rockville Pride festival in June at The Square in Rockville Town Center, hosted by the city’s Human Rights Commission.
“The City of Rockville is very committed to making sure that everybody that lives here, that works here and visits here knows that they are welcome and in fact they belong,” said Jeanne Booth, Rockville’s director of the Office of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
Pride Month is celebrated in the United States to commemorate the Stonewall Riots of June 1969, which are acknowledged as the beginning of the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement. The month also recognizes the impact LGBTQ+ individuals have had on history, locally, nationally and internationally. Rockville’s Mayor and Council have issued proclamations declaring Pride Month since June 2017.
