A fire lane is a section of roadway, parking lot, or other path reserved for fire department access during emergencies. Parking, loading, unloading, or any activity that blocks access to a fire lane is prohibited and may result in a citation and fine.
Property managers and building owners can request that an area be evaluated for designation as a fire lane by contacting the Inspection Services Division at 240-314-8240 or rockvillefiremarshal@rockvillemd.gov. Guidelines are available in the Fire Lane Sign Requirements Information Packet. Return a completed Fire Lane Establishment Order to the City of Rockville Fire Marshal’s Office, which will deliver the documents to the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office after approving the proposed fire lane. Requesters are responsible for the cost of any site modifications needed to mark a fire lane.
