Rockville Mentoring Program
The Rockville Mentoring Program began in 1994 in one Rockville elementary school and has since expanded to three schools. Mentoring provides elementary age students, typically in third through fifth grades, a one-on-one relationship with an adult or high school student. To find out more, watch a Rockville 11 video about the mentoring program.
The pair meets for one hour, one day each week after school from October through May. The mentors and mentees work in a group setting with other mentors and mentees.
Mentoring provides a wonderful experience for both the mentor and mentee. Mentors do not need any special skills; just a desire to listen and offer guidance, encouragement and friendship.
High school students can earn Student Service Learning credit hours for their participation.
Since its inception, the program has helped hundreds of Rockville youngsters by providing willing adults who will share their time and who will give of themselves to provide a positive influence on the life of a youngster.
Training and support are offered. To learn more about becoming a mentor, call 240-314-8310 or complete an online application.
