The City of Rockville is a well-educated and diverse community with established residential neighborhoods and growing commercial centers. To understand the characteristics of the Rockville community, and what the future holds, the Planning and Research Division of the Community Planning and Development Services Department collects, analyzes, and interprets data on city demographics, households, and employment to identify local and regional trends that are relevant to Rockville. Data sources are collected from the City of Rockville’s own inventories, U.S. Census Bureau surveys, private research firms, and other sources. The data provided here represents only a fraction of available data and focuses on significant city trends and survey results.

Mapping Disparity in the City of Rockville

Using 2020 Decennial Census Data and 2021 American Community Survey Five-Year estimates, a data-driven tool was developed to identify equity focus areas within the city. The equity focus areas are parts of the city that are characterized by higher concentrations of lower income people, who may have barriers to language, be increasingly cost burdened as renters, have less education, may not have access to health insurance, etc. The tool is designed to help develop plans, policies, and regulations that benefit all community members and facilitate decisions to help reduce or eliminate inequity.

2023 Fiscal Impact Analysis of Development

In October 2023, the Mayor and Council unanimously accepted the Development Fiscal Impact Analysis Report and Model prepared by the consultant team of NewGen Strategies and Solutions. City staff will utilize the model to evaluate the fiscal impacts of future development and redevelopment. A multi-departmental team was assembled to facilitate this project, including representatives from the Community Planning and Development Services, Finance, and Public Works departments.
