To maintain the health of city trees and the surrounding environment, only trees that are dead, diseased, severely damaged, or pose a risk to public safety will be removed. Only trees located within the public right-of-way or on city property will be removed. Visit the Street and Park Tree Management page to learn more.
To report a damaged or fallen tree on city property, complete the Damaged or Fallen City Tree Report Form. You may also call 240-314-8700 on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., or 240-314-8900 outside those hours.
Trees Not Maintained by the City
- Trees on Private Property: Visit the Locate Your Property Boundaries page to help determine whether a tree is on private or city property. For trees on private property, email forestry@rockvillemd.gov to contact the city forester, who provides private tree consultations upon request and as time allows.
- Trees on Electrical Lines: Electrical lines are maintained by Pepco. If a tree is on an electrical line, call Pepco’s emergency line at 1-877-737-2662. Pepco does not clear limbs from communication lines, and city tree crews are not certified to work within 10 feet of any utility line.
- Trees on Historic or HOA Properties: A tree removal permit is required for trees on historic and HOA properties. Tree removal on private HOA property is determined by the HOA, but may still be subject to the Forest and Tree Preservation Ordinance.
