City’s MPDU Program Opens Door to Affordable Homeownership

August 31, 2026

Looking to buy a home but worried about affordability? Eligible households can apply to buy homes at reduced prices.

The city’s Moderately Priced Dwelling Unit Homeownership program requires for-sale properties be available to Rockville residents at more affordable prices than market-rate homes. Under the program, homebuilders are required to set aside a certain percentage of for-sale homes as affordable units. Prospective homebuyers must meet specific requirements to maintain ownership and eligibility.

Get added to the list in three easy steps to receive a call when MPDU homes are available:

  1. Attend a first-time homebuyer class.
  2. Obtain a mortgage preapproval letter from your bank.
  3. Complete the MPDU homeownership application online.
